As an artist, teacher and papermaker, I have taught workshops for adults and children for the past 20 years.

I lead participants to understand the basic techniques of making paper from plant fibers. I offer several workshop alternatives or I can customize a workshop for the specific needs of a student or group. Workshops for small groups can be conducted in my mill studio in Richmond, Maine. For larger groups, I can travel to the location of your choice.

Workshops:

  • I give basic papermaking workshops covering sheet formation, embedding, shaped paper, paper creations for organic books, lace paper, large sheet formation, sculptural effects and more. $60 for 3-hr workshops on the weekends and other times at the Richmond Mill Studio. Call Richard for times and registration. Bring materials for embedding if you want. Follow-up rental times at the studio are available. 3-4 hrs $50 plus materials.
  • I am available for workshops and residencies for groups and schools. 1-2 days $300 per day, longer residencies cost $250 per day. Travel and materials may be extra. Call Richard to work out the details.
  • Some more advanced topics and creative organic bookbinding are available on request.
  • I give lectures about my papermaking expressions and (or) about my travels and jourmals. Call for details.
  • I look for artists who may want to share the rental of my spacious mill studio space. Call for details. Papermaking and other arts. Only a limited number of artists can participate.
