January 2007 - Istanbul
In January 2007, Richard traveled to Istanbul for three weeks. A new friend, Tahir, showed him Istanbul: a Turkish bath, the whirling dervishes, fortune telling from coffee grounds, many kebabs, and more. Stay at this great hotel when you're in Istanbul: Hotel Sebnem. www.sebnemhotel.net

During February 2002, Richard spent three weeks in Peru. He completed a journal of his experiences. His travels included Machu Picchu, the Nazca Lines, Arequipa, Lima, Colca Canyon, Cusco and Lake Titicaca. All of these sites were highlights of Richard's travels.

During the summer of 2001, Richard spent five weeks in Guatemala. He spent much of the time in Antigua at the Posada La Merced where he had a small studio. He taught two papermaking workshops, one of which found Mayan women learning the fine points of making paper from indigenous fibers. Richard returned to Guatemala in 2006.
